Jason Arday Hounded by the Media

Jason Arday was the youngest black professor that the University of Cambridge had ever appointed, and was considered by some to be the best in his field, the sociology of education. He is not just black but neuro-diverse (i.e. Asperger's Syndrome), which might explain the quality of his ideas. See the Wikipedia page on him.

In 2026 allegations of plagiarism, falsified research and false claims about his achievements came out, some media pundits attacking Equality-Diversity-Inclusion (EDI) initiatives at universities. He protested his innocence, though admitting making some mistakes. The allegations and attacks put pressure on both the university, which announced an investigation into his appointment, and him, and he resigned his post. He was found dead soon after that on 14th August 2026, having expressed to friends that he felt there was nothing left. It has never been officially said, but it is not unreasonable to interpret his death as suicide, and I will assume that to be the case.

Having been a university lecturer and professor, I have witnessed some unfairness in EDI initiatives in universities, but I was appalled at the frenzied media barrage, all one-sided against Jason Arday. He was treated as garbage by the media.

In my opinion, the media has a lot to answer for.

It was almost like a lynching. Jason Arday was humiliated, not just critiqued. No voice of compassion was heard above the din, no voice of mercy. Except perhaps for the Christian, Robert Beckford, who cited Psalm 130,

"If you kept a record of our sins, who could escape being condemned?"

We have all sinned. Yet the media takes to itself the role of condemning, which ultimately belongs to God alone. Only God is truly Just and Right - and the Bible reveals that, paradoxically to us, God is also Love.
